The TLDR 👇
Ethereum has two forks planned for 2026, both focused on scaling.
The Glamsterdam fork introduces parallel transaction processing and pushes the gas limit to 200 million (up from 60 million). Validators will increasingly verify zero-knowledge proofs instead of re-executing transactions, targeting 10,000 TPS on L1.
On L2s, data blobs could increase to 72+ per block, unlocking hundreds of thousands of TPS across rollups. Later in the year, the Hegota fork targets censorship resistance and privacy, while the Ethereum Interoperability Layer enables seamless cross-chain movement.
Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, issued the country’s first bitcoin-backed loan to mining company Intelion Data.
The loan used Sberbank’s crypto custody product, Rutoken, to secure the collateral. The bank described it as a pilot with potential for expansion.
Sberbank already offers clients structured bonds and digital financial assets tied to bitcoin and ether. It’s also exploring DeFi instruments and supports the gradual legalization of crypto in Russia.
A notable milestone for institutional crypto adoption outside the West.
Erebor, a Columbus-based digital bank co-founded by Anduril’s Palmer Luckey, just closed a $350 million funding round at a $4.35 billion valuation, according to Axios.
The bank is designed for the post-Silicon Valley Bank era, targeting underserved sectors like AI, defense, advanced manufacturing, and digital assets. Its model pairs a traditional U.S. bank charter with stablecoin-native infrastructure, aiming to connect Wall Street with on-chain finance.
Investors are betting that a compliance-first, U.S.-chartered bank can bridge traditional finance and the digital asset economy. The fact that it’s headquartered in Ohio rather than the coasts signals an effort to build financial infrastructure in the country’s emerging defense and AI corridor.
Saudi Arabia is laying the groundwork for tokenized real estate as part of its Vision 2030 digital agenda.
The Real Estate General Authority has launched national infrastructure to support property tokenization, including blockchain-based registration, fractionalization, and marketplace connectivity. The goal is to improve transparency, liquidity, and access for investors.
In practice, tokenization converts property rights into digital tokens representing full or fractional ownership, along with entitlements to rental income and capital gains. These tokens can be traded on platforms with low entry points, broadening participation in real estate investment.
As the model scales, Saudi regulators are also working through tax implications under Zakat (the 2.5% annual Islamic levy), VAT, and real estate transaction taxes.
BlackRock is hiring aggressively across its digital assets team, with new roles posted in New York, London, and Singapore.
The openings span product strategy, research, fund services, compliance, and legal. One of the most senior roles, a managing director position in New York, will lead firm-wide initiatives across crypto assets, stablecoins, and tokenization. Salary range: $270,000 to $350,000.
In Singapore, another MD role will oversee digital asset strategy for Asia Pacific, including regulatory engagement and distribution through banks, brokers, exchanges, and fintech platforms.
The job postings signal a global buildout around tokenization infrastructure and controls. BlackRock isn’t just launching products. It’s building the team to scale them.
